Alendronate + menatetrenone is a combination therapy used primarily for treating osteoporosis, particularly in postmenopausal women and patients with rheumatoid arthritis who have osteoporosis or osteopenia. Alendronate is a bisphosphonate that prevents bone breakdown and increases bone density by suppressing bone remodeling. Menatetrenone (vitamin K2) improves bone quality through enhanced gamma-carboxylation of bone glutamic acid residues of osteocalcin, which reduces the incidence of fractures. Clinical studies have shown that this combination decreases bone metabolism marker levels and serum undercarboxylated osteocalcin levels while increasing lumbar spine and femoral neck bone density more effectively than alendronate alone.
