Alendronate + risedronate is a combination of two bisphosphonate drugs, alendronate and risedronate. Both agents are small molecule inhibitors of bone resorption, primarily used in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and other bone-related conditions. They act by binding to hydroxyapatite in bone tissue and inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, thereby increasing bone mineral density and reducing fracture risk. The mechanism involves inhibition of farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase within osteoclasts, leading to decreased osteoclast activity and apoptosis[6][7][8]. Each drug is typically administered separately; there are no widely recognized fixed-dose combination products containing both agents together as a single pill or formulation.
