Alfacalcidol + calcium carbonate is a fixed-dose combination of two agents used primarily to treat or prevent disorders related to low calcium and phosphate levels, such as vitamin D deficiency, renal osteodystrophy (bone changes due to kidney failure), hypoparathyroidism, hypocalcaemia, rickets, and osteomalacia. Alfacalcidol is a vitamin D analog that is converted in the liver to the active form of vitamin D3 (calcitriol), which increases intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate and suppresses parathyroid hormone secretion. Calcium carbonate acts as a mineral supplement providing elemental calcium necessary for bone formation and maintenance. The combination helps restore normal serum levels of calcium and phosphate, supports bone health, improves muscle strength in populations with deficiency states (such as elderly women with low 25(OH)D3), and addresses nutritional deficiencies[2][3][4].
