Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alfacalcidol + ipriflavone is a fixed-dose combination of two active ingredients used primarily for the prevention and treatment of bone loss, particularly in postmenopausal women and individuals at risk for osteoporosis. Alfacalcidol is a synthetic analog of vitamin D (1α-hydroxycholecalciferol) that increases serum calcium by stimulating intestinal absorption, bone resorption, and possibly renal reabsorption of calcium. It also suppresses parathyroid hormone secretion[1]. Ipriflavone is a synthetic derivative of isoflavones that helps prevent bone density loss by inhibiting bone resorption and supporting the effects of estrogen on bone metabolism[3]. Clinical studies have shown that the combination regimen can significantly reduce vertebral bone loss compared to either agent alone or placebo[4].
