Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alfuzosin + dutasteride is an oral combination drug consisting of two active pharmaceutical ingredients: **alfuzosin**, an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker, and **dutasteride**, a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor. This combination is used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate in men. Alfuzosin selectively relaxes smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder neck via antagonism of alpha-1-adrenergic receptors, improving urine flow and relieving lower urinary tract symptoms. Dutasteride inhibits type I and II 5-alpha-reductase isoenzymes, reducing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone implicated in the development and progression of prostate enlargement. The dual approach provides both rapid symptom relief (alfuzosin) and reduction in prostate volume and disease progression (dutasteride)[1][2][5].
