Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Frendacid is a combination antacid and antiflatulent formulation developed by Jenburkt Pharmaceuticals. It contains a mixture of active ingredients: alginic acid, aluminium hydroxide, dimethicone, magnesium hydroxide, and magnesium trisilicate. This combination is indicated for the symptomatic relief of hyperacidity, heartburn, acid indigestion, gastroesophageal reflux, and flatulence. Aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and magnesium trisilicate act as antacids by chemically neutralizing gastric acid, thereby increasing gastric pH. Alginic acid reacts with gastric acid to form a protective, foamy gel barrier (raft) that floats on top of the stomach contents, preventing acid reflux into the esophagus. Dimethicone (or simethicone) acts as an antiflatulent by reducing the surface tension of gas bubbles, causing them to coalesce into larger bubbles that can be more easily expelled. Frendacid is typically administered orally as a suspension.
