Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Algitab is a combination pharmaceutical product developed by TTY Biopharm, primarily indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hiatal hernia, pyrosis (heartburn), and gastric or duodenal ulcers. It is formulated as a chewable tablet containing alginic acid, aluminum hydroxide, and magnesium carbonate. The drug works through a dual mechanism: alginic acid reacts with gastric acid to form a viscous, low-density gel raft that floats on the stomach contents, physically preventing the reflux of acid into the esophagus. Simultaneously, the aluminum and magnesium salts act as antacids, neutralizing excess gastric acid to alleviate symptoms of hyperacidity.
