Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Allergovac Depot is a subcutaneous allergen immunotherapy (SCIT) product developed by Roxall Medicina España S.A. It consists of standardized allergen extracts, such as House Dust Mite (HDM) proteins, adsorbed onto an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant to facilitate a depot effect. This formulation allows for the gradual release of allergens at the injection site, which enhances the safety profile and promotes long-term immunological tolerance. The drug works by shifting the immune response from a Th2-dominated allergic profile to a Th1 and regulatory T-cell (Treg) response. This shift leads to the production of allergen-specific IgG4 "blocking" antibodies, which compete with IgE for allergen binding, thereby preventing mast cell and basophil degranulation. It is primarily investigated for the treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and allergic asthma triggered by specific environmental allergens.
