Allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AIAT) is an investigational cell therapy developed by the Andalusian Initiative for Advanced Therapies (Fundación Pública Andaluza Progreso y Salud). The therapy consists of expanded mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) harvested from the adipose tissue of healthy donors. It is specifically being evaluated for the treatment of HIV-infected individuals who exhibit a discordant immunological response—a condition where patients maintain suppressed viral loads under antiretroviral therapy (ART) but fail to achieve adequate CD4+ T-cell recovery. The mechanism of action leverages the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties of MSCs, which are intended to reduce chronic immune activation and systemic inflammation, thereby facilitating immune reconstitution. The cells are administered via intravenous infusion in multiple doses.
