HB-adMSCs are allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells being developed by The Methodist Hospital Research Institute. These cells are harvested from donor adipose tissue and are being investigated for their regenerative potential in treating erectile dysfunction, particularly in patients who have undergone radical retropubic prostatectomy (RALP) for localized prostate cancer. The therapeutic approach involves both intravenous infusion and local injection into the corpora cavernosa and along the neurovascular bundles. The mechanism of action is thought to involve the secretion of paracrine factors that promote neuroprotection, neuroregeneration of the cavernous nerves, and repair of the vascular endothelium within the penis, thereby facilitating the recovery of erectile function post-surgery.
