Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) are a cell-based therapeutic product consisting of multipotent stromal cells isolated from the adipose tissue of healthy donors. These cells are being investigated for their potential to treat chronic kidney disease (CKD) through their potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. Upon intravenous administration, AD-MSCs are thought to home to sites of injury and secrete a variety of paracrine factors, including cytokines and growth factors, which help to reduce renal fibrosis and promote tissue regeneration. This specific research program, led by LaTonya J. Hickson at the Mayo Clinic, focuses on evaluating the safety and tolerability of these cells in patients with impaired kidney function, aiming to slow the progression of renal decline.
