Overview

This is an investigational cell therapy developed by the Royan Institute in Iran for the treatment of tibial fractures. The therapy consists of allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) administered via local injection to promote the healing of tibial closed diaphyseal fractures. These stem cells are hypothesized to accelerate bone repair through two primary mechanisms: direct differentiation into bone-forming osteoblasts and the secretion of various paracrine factors (such as growth factors and cytokines) that stimulate angiogenesis, modulate inflammation, and recruit endogenous regenerative cells to the fracture site. A Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT02140528) has been conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this transplantation in patients with recent tibial fractures.
