Overview
This is an investigational cell therapy consisting of allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) developed by Liaocheng People's Hospital for the treatment of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. These MSCs are adult stem cells harvested from adipose tissue that possess the ability to home to sites of mucosal damage. Once at the site of inflammation, they exert immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects by secreting paracrine factors, which help reduce colonic inflammation and promote functional recovery of the damaged intestinal mucosa. The therapy is currently being evaluated in a Phase I/II clinical trial (NCT03609905) where it is administered via intracolonic injection using a colonoscope.
