Overview

This investigational cell therapy consists of allogeneic bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (allo-hMSCs) developed by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) for the treatment of idiopathic Parkinson's disease. The therapy is designed to leverage the immunomodulatory properties of mesenchymal stem cells to reduce neuroinflammation, which is a key driver of dopaminergic neuron loss in Parkinson's. Administered via repeat intravenous infusions, the therapy has been evaluated in a Phase 2 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (NCT04506073) to assess its safety and potential as a disease-modifying treatment. The cells are believed to exert neuroprotective effects by modulating the immune response and creating a more favorable environment for neuronal survival.
