Overview

This investigational cell therapy consists of allogeneic mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) derived from donor bone marrow. Developed by Catherine Bollard and evaluated at the Children's National Research Institute, the therapy is currently in Phase 1 clinical trials for pediatric and young adult patients with moderate-to-severe Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis who have failed conventional biologic therapies. The MSCs are cultured in an automated system and administered intravenously in a fresh, replicating stage of growth. These cells possess potent immunomodulatory properties, including the ability to migrate to sites of inflammation, suppress pro-inflammatory cytokine production, and promote tissue repair and regeneration without triggering immune rejection.
