Allogeneic bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (IVIC) is an investigational cell therapy being developed by the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Cientificas (IVIC) for the treatment of periodontal disease. The therapy consists of allogeneic bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) that are cultured and seeded onto a collagen scaffold, which is then incorporated into an autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) clot. This biological construct is surgically implanted into periodontal bone defects to promote the regeneration of alveolar bone, periodontal ligament, and cementum. The treatment aims to restore tissues destroyed by periodontal disease through the differentiation and paracrine signaling of the MSCs. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial to assess its safety and bone regeneration capacity.
