Allogeneic fecal microbiota (St. Petersburg State Pavlov Medical University) is a live biotherapeutic product consisting of encapsulated fecal matter derived from healthy donors. Developed by the St. Petersburg State Pavlov Medical University, it is designed to treat severe acute intestinal graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD), a frequent and severe complication of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The therapy aims to restore the diversity of the intestinal microbiome, which is typically depleted in GVHD patients, thereby promoting intestinal barrier integrity and modulating the immune system to reduce systemic inflammation. In clinical trials, it is being evaluated as a first-line combination therapy alongside the JAK1/2 inhibitor ruxolitinib and corticosteroids to improve response rates in patients with severe intestinal involvement.
