Overview

This is an experimental combination cell therapy being investigated by Shanghai Changzheng Hospital. It involves the co-transplantation of allogeneic pancreatic islet cells and allogeneic human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs) via portal vein infusion. The therapy is designed to treat patients with various forms of diabetes characterized by islet failure, including type 1 diabetes, advanced type 2 diabetes, and pancreatogenic diabetes. The hUCMSCs are intended to provide an immunomodulatory and cytoprotective environment to enhance the survival and functional integration of the transplanted islets, thereby restoring endogenous insulin production and improving glycemic control.
