Allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) developed by the Instituto De Investigación Sanitaria Puerta De Hierro-Segovia De Arana are an investigational cell therapy designed to treat chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD). CLAD, which includes bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS), is a major complication following lung transplantation characterized by chronic inflammation and progressive airway fibrosis. These MSCs are administered endobronchially to deliver the cells directly to the affected lung tissue. The therapeutic rationale is based on the potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties of MSCs, which can suppress the aberrant immune responses driving graft rejection and promote a pro-regenerative environment to stabilize lung function.
