Allogeneic pancreatic islet cells developed by the Baylor Research Institute are a cell therapy intended for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus. The therapy involves the enzymatic isolation of islets of Langerhans from a cadaveric donor pancreas. These islets are then transplanted into the recipient's liver via percutaneous catheterization of the portal venous system.
