This allogeneic cell therapy consists of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from the umbilical cord (UC-MSCs). Developed by The Affiliated Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School, it is being investigated for the treatment of refractory primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). The therapy aims to restore immune homeostasis in patients who have been resistant to multiple standard treatments. Its mechanism of action involves potent immunomodulatory effects, including the suppression of IL-12 production by dendritic cells, the modulation of T cell subsets (such as Th17 and Treg cells), and regulation via the IFN-β/IL-27 signaling axis. It is administered via a single intravenous infusion.
