Overview

Allogeneic umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) are an investigational cell therapy developed by Seoul National University Hospital for the treatment of rotator cuff disease, including partial-thickness tears. These cells are harvested from human umbilical cord tissue and are characterized by their high proliferative capacity and low immunogenicity. When administered via ultrasound-guided intralesional injection, these stem cells are intended to promote tendon healing and reduce inflammation through the secretion of various growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines (paracrine effect). This regenerative approach aims to improve clinical outcomes and structural integrity of the tendon in patients with rotator cuff disease without the need for invasive surgical intervention.
