Overview

Allogenic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) are a cell therapy product developed by Aarhus University Hospital for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. These cells are harvested from the adipose tissue of healthy donors (typically undergoing cosmetic surgery), expanded in vitro, cryopreserved, and delivered via a single intra-articular injection. The therapy leverages the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties of mesenchymal stem cells to alter the joint environment. By secreting a variety of bioactive factors and cytokines, the AD-MSCs aim to reduce synovial inflammation, alleviate pain, and potentially promote tissue repair in patients with mild-to-moderate knee osteoarthritis.
