Overview

This investigational cell therapy consists of ex-vivo activated allogenic natural killer (NK) cells. Developed by the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), it is being evaluated in combination with the HER2-targeted monoclonal antibodies trastuzumab and pertuzumab for the treatment of refractory metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer. The therapy aims to enhance antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC), a key mechanism of action for trastuzumab and pertuzumab, by providing a fresh population of activated NK cells to the tumor microenvironment. The treatment protocol typically includes preconditioning with cyclophosphamide to reduce regulatory T cells and post-infusion support with interleukin-2 (IL-2) to promote NK cell survival and activity.
