Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cobalan is a combination nutritional supplement developed and marketed by Stadchem, containing the coenzyme form of vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) and the antioxidant alpha lipoic acid. It is approved and marketed in India for the management of vitamin B12-related nutritional deficiencies, antioxidant supplementation, and neuropathic conditions such as diabetic neuropathy and peripheral neuropathy. Methylcobalamin acts as a cofactor for methionine synthase, which is essential for DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, and maintaining myelin sheath integrity in the nervous system. Alpha lipoic acid serves as a potent antioxidant that reduces oxidative stress, improves mitochondrial function, and has been shown to act as a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor, thereby supporting nerve cell survival and regeneration.
