Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Alpinia galanga + caffeine** is a *combination product* formulated from the rhizome extract of *Alpinia galanga* (commonly called greater galangal or Thai ginger) and *caffeine*. Alpinia galanga contains flavonoids, terpenoids, and essential oils, and has tradition as a medicinal stimulant in Ayurveda. The combination is developed as a nootropic and psychostimulant supplement, shown in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled human trials to improve *mental alertness, sustained attention,* and *energy* over baseline and caffeine alone. Notably, it impedes the "caffeine crash" commonly seen with caffeine-only products and leads to enhanced sustained attention, improved response time, and decreased fatigue and daytime sleepiness. The mechanisms of action are believed to involve inhibition of *acetylcholinesterase* and increased *dopamine* signaling through blocking dopamine reuptake, both associated with neurocognitive enhancement. The combination is marketed principally as *enXtra + caffeine*, primarily for cognitive and energy support uses in supplements and energy drinks[1][2][3][4][5][6].
