Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Antanil is a fixed-dose combination antacid containing aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide, developed and marketed by Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals. It is indicated for the rapid, symptomatic relief of hyperacidity, heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, gastritis, and dyspepsia, and serves as an adjunctive treatment for peptic ulcer disease. The mechanism of action involves the direct chemical neutralization of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which raises gastric pH and reduces pepsin activity. The combination of aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide is clinically advantageous because aluminium hydroxide has a slow, sustained neutralizing effect and tends to cause constipation, whereas magnesium hydroxide acts rapidly and has a laxative effect; together, they provide balanced bowel effects and prolonged acid neutralization.
