Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ducid Plus is an oral fixed-dose combination antacid and local anesthetic product containing aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and oxetacaine (also known as oxethazaine). Originally developed by Wyeth (now Pfizer) under the brand name Mucaine, and distributed in the Philippines by New Marketlink Pharmaceutical, it is indicated for the symptomatic relief of acute and chronic gastritis, duodenal ulcers, esophagitis, and dyspepsia. Aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide act as antacids, neutralizing excess gastric acid in the stomach to alleviate heartburn and hyperacidity. Oxetacaine is a potent, acid-stable local anesthetic that provides rapid and prolonged pain relief by temporarily numbing the mucosal lining of the esophagus and stomach. This combination effectively balances the gastrointestinal side effects of the antacids (constipation from aluminium and diarrhea from magnesium) while providing immediate local anesthetic relief.
