Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aluminum hydroxide + magnesium hydroxide + simethicone is a combination over-the-counter (OTC) medication used to treat symptoms of gastrointestinal distress. It contains two antacids, aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide, which work by neutralizing gastric acid in the stomach. The third component, simethicone, is an anti-gas agent that acts as a surfactant to reduce the surface tension of gas bubbles in the digestive tract, allowing them to be more easily expelled. This combination is primarily indicated for the relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, and symptoms associated with excess gas, such as bloating and abdominal pressure. It is also used as an adjunct in the treatment of conditions like peptic ulcers, gastritis, and esophagitis.
