A combination therapy where amifostine (WR-2721) is used as a cytoprotective agent alongside carboplatin chemotherapy. Amifostine is a thiol compound that selectively protects normal tissues from chemotherapy-induced toxicity without compromising anti-tumor efficacy. When used with carboplatin, it has been shown to reduce thrombocytopenia duration and hospitalization needs.
