Overview

Amikacin + azlocillin is a combination of two antibiotics used primarily for the empirical treatment of serious infections, especially in immunocompromised or neutropenic patients. Amikacin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to cell death. Azlocillin is an extended-spectrum beta-lactam penicillin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). The combination exhibits synergistic antibacterial activity, particularly against Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Serratia marcescens. This synergy expands the antimicrobial spectrum and enhances bactericidal effects, making it effective for severe hospital-acquired infections and febrile neutropenia[1][2][3][8].
