Overview

Logirène is a fixed-dose combination of two diuretics, furosemide and amiloride hydrochloride, used for the treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure. Furosemide is a potent loop diuretic that inhibits the Na-K-2Cl cotransporter (NKCC2) in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, promoting the excretion of sodium, chloride, and water. Amiloride is a potassium-sparing diuretic that blocks the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) in the late distal tubule and collecting duct, reducing sodium reabsorption while conserving potassium. This combination provides rapid and prolonged diuresis while minimizing the risk of hypokalemia, a common side effect of loop diuretics.
