Overview

Aminexil + finasteride is a pharmaceutical combination used primarily for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness). Aminexil is a topical agent structurally related to minoxidil and is known for its ability to inhibit fibrosis around hair follicles, potentially counteracting follicle shrinkage caused by androgenic effects. Finasteride is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor that reduces the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a key driver in the miniaturization of hair follicles and hair loss. The two drugs act via distinct mechanisms: aminexil is believed to protect hair follicle connective tissue and prolong the anagen (growth) phase, while finasteride decreases DHT levels in the scalp, thereby preventing further hair loss and promoting regrowth. This synergistic combination is often recommended by dermatologists for improved efficacy compared to monotherapy, although aminexil is not yet formally approved by major regulatory authorities[4].
