Overview

A combination hormonal therapy regimen consisting of aminoglutethimide, hydrocortisone, and megestrol acetate. This combination has been studied primarily for the treatment of estrogen receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer in patients who had previously responded to tamoxifen therapy. Aminoglutethimide inhibits aromatase and blocks several steps in steroid synthesis, hydrocortisone is added to replace reduced cortisol production, and megestrol acetate is a synthetic progestin that affects hormones involved in cancer growth.
