Overview

Aminophylline + methylprednisolone is a combination therapy consisting of two active pharmaceutical ingredients used primarily in the management of acute exacerbations of respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Aminophylline is a bronchodilator that acts mainly as a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, adenosine receptor antagonist, and histone deacetylase activator, leading to relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle and improved airflow. Methylprednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties; it modulates gene expression to reduce inflammation in the airways. This combination may be administered intravenously for rapid effect during severe bronchospasm or status asthmaticus when other treatments are insufficient. The drugs can be mixed together under specific conditions for short-term intravenous administration[2][7].
