Overview

A combination therapy being investigated where amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker) is used to potentially augment the effects of botulinum toxin injections in the treatment of focal dystonia. Botulinum toxin works by blocking nerve signals that cause muscles to contract, resulting in muscle relaxation. Amlodipine belongs to a class of medications called calcium channel blockers that relax blood vessels. The combination is being studied to determine if amlodipine can enhance the therapeutic effects of botulinum toxin in patients with focal dystonia.
