Amlodipine + dextromethorphan is an investigational fixed-dose combination therapy being developed by TSH Biopharm Corporation Limited for the treatment of mild to moderate essential hypertension. The combination pairs amlodipine, a well-established dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that reduces blood pressure through vasodilation, with low-dose dextromethorphan (designated as DMTA07). While dextromethorphan is traditionally used as a cough suppressant, in this context it acts as an NADPH oxidase inhibitor. This mechanism reduces oxidative stress and improves endothelial function, providing additional blood pressure reduction and vascular protection beyond amlodipine monotherapy. Clinical studies have focused on patients who do not adequately respond to amlodipine alone, particularly those with impaired endothelial function.
