Amlodipine + folic acid is a fixed-dose combination oral tablet containing the calcium channel blocker amlodipine and the water-soluble vitamin folic acid. This combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension, particularly in patients with hyperhomocysteinemia. Amlodipine acts as a voltage-gated calcium channel blocker, leading to vasodilation and blood pressure reduction. Folic acid participates in homocysteine metabolism, lowering plasma homocysteine levels—a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Clinical studies have shown that this combination is more effective than amlodipine alone at reducing both blood pressure and plasma homocysteine levels, potentially offering additional protection against complications such as stroke[1][2][5][8].
