Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lotak A is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing losartan potassium (50 mg), an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and amlodipine besylate (5 mg), a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB). Developed by Caplet India, it is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension (high blood pressure). Losartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. Amlodipine inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells, leading to vasodilation and reduced peripheral vascular resistance. Together, these complementary mechanisms effectively lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction.
