Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SMF-210 is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) therapy containing amlodipine besylate and olmesartan medoxomil, developed by Jiangxi Shimei Pharmaceutical for the treatment of hypertension. Amlodipine is a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB) that induces peripheral vasodilation by inhibiting the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. Olmesartan medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively antagonizes the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle, thereby inhibiting its vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects. The combination of these two agents provides synergistic blood pressure lowering through complementary mechanisms of action. SMF-210 is currently undergoing bioequivalence studies in China to support its approval as a generic version of the reference drug Azor.
