Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Panthor is an oral combination cough syrup developed and marketed by Juggat Pharma, a division of Jagdale Industries. It contains ammonium chloride (an expectorant), chlorpheniramine maleate (a first-generation antihistamine), and sodium citrate (a mucolytic and systemic alkalizer). This combination is indicated for the symptomatic relief of cough, including smoker's cough, allergic cough, and cough induced by respiratory tract infections (RTI) or the flu. Ammonium chloride works by irritating the gastric mucosa, reflexively increasing respiratory tract secretions to thin and loosen mucus. Chlorpheniramine maleate acts as an antagonist of the histamine H1 receptor to alleviate allergic symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and throat irritation. Sodium citrate acts as a mucolytic to break down thick mucus, facilitating its clearance from the airways.
