Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A novel formulation combining amobarbital, a barbiturate derivative that functions as a mitochondrial electron transport chain complex I inhibitor, with Gel-One, a crosslinked hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogel. This combination is designed as a drug delivery system for the treatment of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA). Amobarbital reduces oxidative damage and chondrocyte death by inhibiting mitochondrial complex I, while the HA hydrogel serves as a depot-style drug delivery vehicle that remains at the intra-articular injection site for extended periods, improving the long-term efficacy of amobarbital.
