Overview
AMOZID BX is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing the aminopenicillin antibiotic amoxicillin (250 mg) and the mucolytic agent bromhexine (8 mg). Developed and marketed by Medicraft (Gujarat Medicraft) in India, this combination is approved for the treatment of respiratory tract infections associated with excessive or viscid mucus. Amoxicillin exerts bactericidal activity by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Bromhexine acts as a secretolytic and mucolytic agent, thinning and loosening phlegm to facilitate its clearance from the respiratory tract, which also enhances the penetration and antibacterial efficacy of amoxicillin in bronchial secretions.
