Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Omen Duo (오멘듀오) is an oral antibacterial combination product developed and marketed by Unimed Pharm in South Korea. It consists of amoxicillin, a semi-synthetic beta-lactam antibiotic, and potassium clavulanate, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Amoxicillin exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Potassium clavulanate acts as a suicide inhibitor of beta-lactamase enzymes, which are commonly produced by bacteria to degrade beta-lactam antibiotics. By neutralizing these enzymes, clavulanate protects amoxicillin from degradation and extends its spectrum of activity to include many beta-lactamase-producing organisms that would otherwise be resistant. Omen Duo is approved for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections (such as sinusitis, tonsillitis, and pneumonia), urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections.
