Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Spotclav is a generic brand of co-amoxiclav, a combination antibiotic consisting of the beta-lactam antibiotic amoxicillin and the beta-lactamase inhibitor clavulanic acid (as potassium clavulanate). Manufactured by Sparsh Bio-Tech, Spotclav is administered orally to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, including acute bacterial sinusitis, acute otitis media, community-acquired pneumonia, cystitis, pyelonephritis, skin and soft tissue infections, and bone and joint infections. Amoxicillin works by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) involved in bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis. Clavulanic acid acts as a suicide inhibitor of beta-lactamase enzymes, preventing the degradation of amoxicillin by resistant bacteria and extending its spectrum of activity.
