Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Moxilife Duo is a combination antibiotic product containing amoxicillin, a semi-synthetic beta-lactam antibiotic, and potassium clavulanate, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Amoxicillin acts by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which leads to bacterial lysis. Clavulanic acid is structurally related to penicillins but possesses little intrinsic antibacterial activity; instead, it functions by competitively and irreversibly inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes. This inhibition prevents the enzymatic degradation of amoxicillin, thereby extending its spectrum of activity to include many bacteria normally resistant to amoxicillin and other beta-lactam antibiotics. It is typically used for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including those of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, and skin.
