Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amcloren is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic consisting of amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum aminopenicillin, and cloxacillin, a penicillinase-resistant penicillin. Amoxicillin works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential for the cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains. Cloxacillin also binds to PBPs but is specifically designed to resist degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by certain bacteria, such as *Staphylococcus aureus*. This combination is primarily used to treat respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and other systemic infections where beta-lactamase-producing organisms may be present. It is manufactured and marketed by Rene Industries in Uganda as an approved generic product.
