Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amoxicillin + potassium clavulanate + lactic acid bacillus is a combination pharmaceutical product containing a broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, and a probiotic. **Amoxicillin** acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins. **Potassium clavulanate** is a suicide inhibitor of beta-lactamase enzymes, which prevents the enzymatic degradation of amoxicillin and extends its activity against resistant bacterial strains. **Lactic acid bacillus** (specifically *Lactobacillus acidophilus*) is included as a probiotic to restore healthy intestinal microflora that are often disrupted during antibiotic therapy, thereby reducing the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. This combination is primarily marketed in India for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including pneumonia, otitis media, sinusitis, and urinary tract infections.
