Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ampicillin + cloxacillin is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including those of the respiratory tract, ear, nose and throat, urinary tract, skin and soft tissue, gastrointestinal system, bones and joints[1][3][5]. Ampicillin is a broad-spectrum beta-lactam penicillin effective against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Cloxacillin is a narrow-spectrum penicillin that is resistant to staphylococcal beta-lactamases (penicillinase), making it effective against penicillin-resistant staphylococci. The combination provides synergistic antibacterial activity by covering both susceptible organisms (ampicillin) and beta-lactamase-producing staphylococci (cloxacillin)[2][4][6].
