Spamclox is an oral combination antibiotic containing ampicillin and cloxacillin, developed by Sparsh Biotech. Ampicillin is a broad-spectrum aminopenicillin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), while cloxacillin is a penicillinase-resistant penicillin that also targets PBPs and is stable against degradation by bacterial beta-lactamases (penicillinases). This combination provides synergistic activity and broader coverage against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including penicillinase-producing staphylococci.
